Lectures from the symposium at Focus On Fungal Infections 15
March 16-18, 2005 Miami, Florida



Target Audience:

This educational program is intended for physicians, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals with special education and training in microbiology or infectious diseases who are interested in the identification, diagnosis, and management of invasive fungal infections.

Educational Objectives:

After successful completion of this program participants should be able to:
  • List and identify the most important newly emerging fungal pathogens
  • Discuss the relevance of clinical laboratory findings for the diagnosis and management of patients with invasive fungal infections
  • Recommend treatment for invasive fungal infections in normal and at-risk populations
  • Advise on prophylactic and early presumptive antifungal therapy for at-risk patients
  • Summarize the characteristics of the newer antifungal agents and clinical trial results utilizing these agents
  • Discuss the pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and pharmacogenomics of antifungal agents
  • Comment on the challenges faced in management of pediatric cases of fungal infection
  • Discuss alternative (non-chemotherapy) therapy options for treatment of infectious diseases

  • Audio troubleshooting:

    The Focus on Fungal Infections 15 is designed to work on most Windows systems. There is a known incompatibility with Windows XP users running Windows Media Player version 8. These users will be able to view video, but will not hear the accompanying audio. With an open internet connection while a presentation is playing, the necessary file will automatically download. Click yes when the security warning prompts you to install the file. This incompatibility can also be resolved by updating to Windows Media Player 9 at: www.microsoft.com. Click on "downloads" and type Media Player 9 into the search field.
